III. Emily Jacobson from Healing Roots Wellness Center Defining: A Life Well Lived
I define a life well lived by the amount of joy one experiences. Joy is accessible to all beings regardless of status or circumstances. I believe that joy is a state of mind and only reached by an internal sense and perspective. Living a joyful life does not have to mean that one is always happy. Joy and happiness are two different things and are qualified in very different ways. Here is a very nice podcast explaining this exact concept: episode-79
Healing Roots Wellness Center is a heart and joy centered community gathering and healing space. Creating and running Healing Roots has shown me different levels and ways to experience joy. In the development process there were thousands of decisions to make. This amount of decision making can feel overwhelming and can lead to analysis paralysis. I helped myself avoid this decision fatigue by letting my joy guide me. If something didn’t bring me joy, I knew it wasn’t the right decision. If I felt joy, I moved towards an easy “yes.” This practice allowed me to feel joy in different and more subtle ways.
Running Healing Roots has brought on a different sense of joy. As a natural wellness care provider and heart giver, I have been filled with joy over and over again watching people find wellness and beautifully change their lives by coming to our center. Running Healing Roots has also reinforced my own elements of self-care. I am a person who fully believes in walking my talk. We need to be authentic in the work we do. The more I encourage people to level up in their self-care regimen, the more I do that work myself.
Supporting the wellbeing and mental health of others is at the core of our mission:
“Helping people feel rooted and find empowerment through a variety of services and methods of movement that nurture and inspire a true sense of health and wellness.”
Health and wellness is not a standard formula and means different things to each individual. With the variety of services and classes we offer at Healing Roots, our goal is to have a little something for everyone! We also aim to reach all populations of people and have developed scholarships to help provide financial help for people who wouldn’t normally be able to afford wellness services.
