Coming Home to Your Body: From Shaking Your Bones to Finding Points of Stillness
In a world that constantly demands we stay in our heads—processing emails, managing packed schedules, and navigating endless digital noise—it’s easy to lose touch with the physical vessel that carries us through it all. We become experts at thinking, but we often find ourselves profoundly disconnected from feeling and sensing.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or out of sync lately, here is a simple, powerful invitation: It’s time to come home to yourself.
At Coriander Living Collective, we believe that a "life well lived" requires us to be intentional about our connection to ourselves, others, and the natural world. This summer, we are translating that mission into literal action by taking our mindful movement practice out of the head, off the screen, and onto the grass.
What is Open Floor "Movemeant"?
Forget everything you think you know about a traditional dance class. There are no steps to memorize, no sequences to perfect, and absolutely no way to do it wrong.
Open Floor is a resource-based, mindful movement and conscious dance practice. It is a movement meditation designed to help us settle into the truth of who we are. By using the body as a resource, we learn to shake off the layers of daily stress and "shoulds" to find a more fluid, grounded, and resilient version of ourselves.
When we move with intention, we actively:
Regulate the nervous system: Shift your body out of a high-alert "fight or flight" response and back into a state of calm presence.
Build emotional resiliency: Learn to physically move through discomfort rather than avoiding it or locking it away in your joints.
Increase self-awareness: Connect deeply with your physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts in real time.
Moving Wild: Why We Are Dancing Outside This Summer
We are taking our Open Floor laboratory into the beautiful wilds of the St. Croix River Valley, hosting our summer series on the outdoor lawn at Points of Stillness in Hudson, Wisconsin.
There is something deeply restorative about practicing embodiment with the earth beneath your feet and the sky overhead. People who maintain a regular embodiment practice approach life with more ease, creativity, and flexibility. Moving outside amplifies these benefits, allowing the natural world to help us anchor our awareness.
What to Expect at a Session
Led by Cori Hildebrandt, MA, LPC WI, LPCC MN—psychotherapist, owner of Coriander Living Collective, and a Certified Open Floor International Teacher—each 75-minute class is curated to be safe, welcoming, and accessible to every body.
Cori openly describes herself as a "non-dancer" and a Type A personality by nature. She understands the initial awkwardness or vulnerability that can come with conscious dance, but she also knows the expansive freedom that waits on the other side.
During our outdoor summer sessions, you will be guided through a dynamic wave of music and mindfulness. A typical class includes:
Opening Attention: Settling onto the lawn and opening up your awareness.
Entering: Using an embodied resource as an anchor. In July we’ll be using our BONES.
Exploration: Using a Core Movement Resource from the Open Floor curriculum. In July we’ll be using RELEASE.
Settling & Closing: Ending with a quiet integration period and community sharing.
