Summer in Motion: Finding Your Ground and Points of Stillness
There is something deeply transformative about summer in the St. Croix Valley. The scent of warm prairie grass, the lingering evening light, and the gentle rhythm of the natural world.
At Coriander Living Collective, we believe that a life well lived requires intentional moments of reconnecting—with ourselves, with one another, and with the earth beneath us. That is why this summer, we are stepping out of the traditional room and onto the grass for Open Floor Movemeant & Meditation at Points of Stillness.
What Does It Mean to Truly "Ground"?
We often hear the word grounding in wellness and therapeutic spaces, but what does it actually mean in practice?
Grounding is an essential physical and emotional resource. In Open Floor movement practice, Ground is one of our foundational Core Movement Resources. It is the practice of consciously bringing awareness down out of the busy thinking mind and establishing physical contact with the earth beneath our feet.
When we ground ourselves:
We anchor the nervous system: Physical contact with the floor or earth sends strong, regulating signals to the subcortical brain, helping shift us out of "fight-or-flight" and into safety and calm.
We find physical alignment: We allow gravity to hold our weight rather than gripping tightly through our shoulders, neck, or lower back.
We step into the present: You cannot ground in yesterday or tomorrow—grounding happens exclusively in the now.
Grounding isn't about standing rigid or staying completely still; it is an active, dynamic relationship with gravity. It provides the stable foundation from which we can move, adapt, and express ourselves freely.
Summer in Motion: Returning to the Body Outdoors
Movement is one of the quickest pathways back to embodiment. When we pair conscious movement with the outdoors, something extra magical happens.
When we step barefoot or in comfortable shoes onto the green grass at Points of Stillness, the natural environment becomes our co-facilitator. Moving outside allows us to expand our awareness: feeling the evening breeze on our skin, listening to the sounds of nature, and feeling the solid, unfailing support of the earth underfoot.
